PREFACE.
The object of this Pharmacopoeia is to [.describe certain medicinal preparations and compounds which are frequently employed an St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, but are not contained in the British Pharmacopoeia.
The substances named in these prepara- tions have been taken, with very few ex- ceptions, from the British Pharmacopoeia of 1867 ; and the weights and measures employed are such as are authorised in that work.
The adoption of the English language in the British Pharmacopoeia justifies the use of the same language in this Hospital Phar-
VI
raacopoeia ; but the medicines themselves are designated, as they also are in the British Pharmacopoeia, by a Latin as well as by an English name, for the convenience of prescription.
A Table has been appended of the Doses of Officinal Medicines recommended in the British Pharmacopoeia, which will probably be found a useful and convenient addition.
