Class Pr opdecy
It’s the Spring of 1971, and we return to Big Island for the first time since graduation in 1961. A big industrial city had replaced the quiet little village.
As we tour the city in my new car, we wonder about the people we left behind, especially our classmates. Look! Mickey Douglas, a classmate-quickly we cross the street to a Restaurant, owned by Barry Spence, who is the husband of Betty St. John.
We proceeded to Mickey’s home, ’’Rusher’s Haven”. She and John happily married, have five children and he’s the owner of Rusher's Box Factory.
Being curious, I asked Mickey about our classmates- She began telling about Truly Casto, who was married in her Senior year. They now have three children and Neil is president of Owen- 111. Glass Co.
Another, Shirley Hickman still resides in Big Island and teaches Home Economics in the school and is single as yet, but we saw a large diamond sparkle.
We decided to go to Lynchburg in hopes we'd see some of the classmates there, and there stood Nancy Goff, a registered nurse of Va. Baptist Hospital. She is married to Johnny Overstreet and are proud parents of twins. Nancy infor med us, that Vincent Tanner and Jean Campbell were professors at Lynchburg College, and Vincent owned the Tanner Dairy (near the college).
Johnny Goff, also a resident of Lynchburg and was a pro- fessional basketball player & owned Goff's Youth Center.
From Lynchburg, we continued to Bedford where we saw Bea Tolley and she’s married to Alvin Snead and spends most of her time with her little Sneads.
Continuing on to Clifton Forge to visit my Uncle, I saw Allen Burks and he said my uncle and he were partners in a business concern. He also said David A. was a professor of Math at V.P.I. and was married to Nancy Blankenship, formally of but
live with their three daughters in Lexington.
David’s pal, Wayne Neas is now in North Carolina, having graduated from Harvard College, majoring in the field of Forestry and now owner of Neas Bear Park.

Class Prophecy
Furthering our journey, we stopped off in New York, to con- tinue our visit of classmates, Patsy Thomas and Lois Peters. Patsy having married Ronnie Overstreet, a professional football player, and they are very happy over their twins, & Pat is content being a housewife and mother. Lois, a famous artist, being made famous by paintings of her former home. (B.I.)
We inquired of the balance of our classmates and found many were in Uncle Sam’s Service. Pat O'Conner was in Germany, with her husband Serg. Carl Watkins. Pat a great designer, spends most of her time designing clothes for Paris.
Johnny Reynolds (Woman Hater) an officer of U.S. Air Force is stationed in Paris, France where he stars as a player on the Air Force Basketball Team and shall we say, still single.
Lois said, Dorothy Wilson, Susie Woodfin, were residents of Florida. Dorothy is the wife of Cecil Stanley and is pursuing her career of Singing. Susie is with Dickie and the three boys and still enjoys making fudge, but now in her own Candy Shop.
Jimmy Downey located at Cape Canneral, is resting, having just completed his own private plane. Although pursued, by many girls, he has escaped the marriage- tie.
We started for home and thought of Harold Plott, located in Hollywood, Cal., now a famous actor and owner of New Paramont Plott Studio.
As we continue home (Los Angeles) we saw a sign, "Martin’s Beauty Salon", a chain of Salons owned by Margaret Martin.
Our journey coming to an end, we stopped at Robert's Trailer Parks, where I left my former classmate, Betty Byers, now mar- ried to Walt Roberts. They have two little Roberts and Betty writes for the Post Magazine.
Now having contacted all classmates of 1961, I shall now say, I’m married to Rodney Monroe, a Navy officer and am Secre- tary to the mayor of Los Angeles. We have a little Monroe, "Marlyn".
